Outcome: Taking into consideration the present scenario of Yamuna River along the Yamuna Expressway, how urbanization and rain water harvesting system will improve the quality of drinking water, and hence the health of people?
Description: Yamuna has always been a sacramental river of India. But described now as a huge sewage canal, Yamuna water is unfit for human consumption. It’s like a dead flowing water poisoning the aquatic life, and hence the human life. Our project deals with Yamuna River. When we collected water samples from different villages situated along the Yamuna expressway, we observed the misery of people living there. In JEWAR KHADAR hardness of water is 35mg/l. At several places the water is jet black with a thick layer of waste floating on the surface. The funds and sanctioned money have been spent on cleaning the drains that lead to the rivers, by putting in sewage treatment plants. Unfortunately no improvement has been noticed. These areas need an effective 5 year government plan of supplying clean drinking water. At the same time the laws relating to water pollution need to be implemented rigorously.
