Outcome: The objective of this work is to determine the suitability of sodium hydroxide and fly ash as a modifier or stabilizer in the treatment of soil for roadwork and construction activities.
Description: This paper represents a study of sodium hydroxide and fly ash on the basic engineering properties of soil such as liquid limit, plastic limit, compaction, Unconfined Compressive strength, free swelling index and California bearing ratio of Soil. The percentage of sodium hydroxide used in soil varied from 3N to 15N with 3% to 15% for each normality. Besides the percentage of fly ash used in soil is 25%. After conducting the free swelling index, normality and % of Compressive is fixed for the testing soil specimen.
The plastic limit, maximum dry density and California bearing ratio, Unconfined Compressive strength increased with an addition of sodium hydroxide and fly ash but liquid limit, optimum moisture content, free swelling index of soil decreased with an addition of sodium hydroxide and fly ash.
